Lymphoedema Index

Lymphoedema Index

One of the fears following cancer surgery or radiation is the development of lymphoedema (swelling) in one of the limbs or other parts of the body. To ascertain that lymphoedema is present in the arm or the leg has always been problematic for cancer patients because it is difficult to evaluate the amount of excess fluid in the tissue.

With Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), it is possible to evaluate tissue changes related to the presence of fluid. It is a fast and painless test, which takes approximately 10 minutes to perform. It allows for an early detection of lymphoedema, which means earlier diagnosis, prevention, and treatment, decreasing its impact on health and quality of life. A study on bioimpedance predicts the onset of lymphoedema up to 10 months before the clinical signs are diagnosed.

Early lymphoedema detection

Cancer sufferers can now  have a reading before undergoing surgery, which provides the optimum baseline for further readings. This means that developing lymphoedema can be detected before clinical symptoms are visible.

Monitoring lymphoedema changes

The first reading at anytime also offers a valuable baseline for monitoring lymphoedema changes.

Checking your Lymphoedema Index is fast and painless test. It only takes approximately 10 minutes to perform. Early lymphoedema detection can mean prevention, early treatment, less impact on health and quality of life.
